The museum reopens its main building to the public
The Székely National Museum reopens its modernized main building designed by Károly Kós and the surrounding dendrological park to the public at a ceremony on Thursday, 26 October 2023, at 5pm.
Visitors will be able to enjoy a new approach and a new way of presenting the themes of the exhibitions displayed. The exhibition entitled Geniuses behind the Heroes, supported by the Hungarian Genius Programme aims at examining the organisation of the self-defence struggle in the area from a community perspective. It presents the events of the War of Independence, the organisation of its military industry showing the events in the hinterland of the Revolution, the everyday geniuses behind the heroes, the community behind the self-sacrificing way of life, as well as the role of women during the war.
At the same time, our permanent exhibition entitled Milestones highlights key events in the history of the museum from its founding to the present day, being accompanied by some unique and spectacular artefacts.
Our guests will be welcomed by Sándor Tamás, President of the Covasna County Council and Mihály Vargha, Director of the Székely National Museum. András Tóth-Bartos, historian, will give a curatorial guided tour. Dr. Ágnes Herczeg will guide the guests through the museum garden. Dombi Rózsa folk dancer will contribute to the event with selected folk songs.
