Barna Préda: Time Sealed in Glass
Photographs from Lajos Incze’s Studio in Sfântu Gheorghe from the “Little Hungarian World”
The May 1990 earthquake damaged the Gyulai House in Sfântu Gheorghe, once home to a daylight photography studio. During its restoration, thousands of glass negatives were discovered. The collection was first cared for by photographer László Kovács (1944–2022), and later by ethnographer Barna Préda. Its military history material was compiled in 2025.
The volume brings to life the uniformed world of the period following the Second Vienna Award. The photographs portray members of military and paramilitary organisations, as well as uniformed staff of the railways, postal service, financial guard and various associations. The portraits are complemented by historical context outlining the activities of these organisations in the Háromszék region and the wider Székely Land.
