LIVE THEQUE

AnnART Archive Project

The AnnART International Performance Festival, which ran for ten consecutive editions around Lake Saint Anne, was initiated 35 years ago by Imre Baász. Following his tragic death, the festival continued under the direction of Gusztáv Ütő. From this temporal distance, we are attempting to reactivate this series of events through the AnnART Archive Project, which aims to expand and digitize the festival’s documentary materials in order to make them accessible to the wider public and serve artistic research and education.

As part of this initiative — and as a contribution to the ongoing expansion of the collection — we are organizing the multimedia event LIVE THEQUE, which also opens up a community space through personal memories and collective storytelling. The event centers around the AnnART tent, which once served as the administrative hub and iconic symbol of the festival, and which will be re-installed after 25 years, this time in the courtyard of the Székely National Museum.

The program will include screenings of archival footage from the AnnART Performance Festival (1990–1999), public discussions with artists represented in the archive, as well as with festival organizers and audience members. Through video transmission, we will reconnect the artists with the local community. The event will be enriched by multimedia performances and will culminate in a musical performance composed from iconic sound recordings from the festival’s history.
