Károly Elekes
ARRIÈRE-GARDE POSITION
The axes of Károly Elekes are witty and versatile, with a kind of cunning design. They have been made of steel, lead, wood, without handles or a branching handle. They are struck in stone, wood and metal. They form various configurations, are arranged in star shapes, are compressed like a fossil, are weighted in silk cushions.
Starting with the artwork titled ARRIÈRE-GARDE POSITION (Post Defensive Position) created at Lăzarea Art Camp in 2010, the axes of Károly Elekes have been organised into a thematic unit for more than a decade.
However, they all have one thing in common: like symbols, they are distinguished from the expediency of the hand tool.
