Words to Heaven
Solo exhibition of artist István Balázs
Artist István Balázs was born on the 3rd of March 1944 in the village of Borzont (the commune of Joseni, Harghita County). He graduated from the Secondary School of Arts in Târgu Mureș (1958-1963) and from the Technical School, Architecture specialization in the same town (1965-1968). He worked as an architectural designer in Târgu Mureș and Sfântu Gheorghe until retirement. His activity as a fine artist was carried out – with some interruptions – in addition to his daily work to make a living.
As he puts it: “I could also call myself a Sunday painter. I believe that the creative process should not become a daily grind. But the most beautiful thing about art is that you don’t have to do it, says Bohumil Hrabal. Always starting from observing real things, I strive to create not just images, but real paintings.”
Since 1969 he has participated in various group exhibitions in the country (about 95) and abroad (5). He was present at the Medium 3 international exhibition. He has worked in 6 artists’ colonies in Hungary. As solo exhibitions he has exhibited five different collections at 11 venues. His works can be found in both public and privately owned collections.
Some important architectural projects: the Trade Unions’ Cultural Center – Sfântu Gheorghe (in collaboration with the project leader arch. Oliver Riti), the editorial offices and printing house of the county newspapers – Sfântu Gheorghe (later radically transformed), the Education Center building “A” (hotel) – Arcuș, the Restoration of Saint Emeric old monument church – Ghelința, the Way of the Cross to Perkő.
