Intermezzo

Graphic art exhibition by Géza Székely

On Friday, 30 August 2024, from 18:00, a new exhibition will open in the Arcade House, the already well-known temporary exhibition space of the Székely National Museum. The exhibition of graphic artist Géza Székely will be opened by art historian Dr. Ferenc Deák and is curated by Barna Éltes, sculptor. The host of the event will be Mihály Vargha, sculptor and the director of the Székely National Museum.

Géza Székely’s roots are deeply and mysteriously rooted in the Székely countryside, whose axis mundi is in Cernat. The artist draws inspiration from the ancient symbols of this world in order to experience universality. Thus, in the paintings illustrating the home, the painter explores the infinite, and in simplicity he seeks mythical longing. In his creations, he gives himself and us back. There are multiple facets of this artist who exposes himself and surprises our soul. He is concerned with the great existential upheavals and makes us perceive and visualize them. He materializes through the maximum use of surrealist procedures, through combinations of bizarre images.

In conclusion, it can be noted that the artist suggests more than the aesthetic expression of creative spaces made with virtuosity: he wants to reconfigure and save a world, a material culture on the verge of extinction, without simply compiling historical and ethnographic relics.

The exhibition will be open until 30 September 2024, and can be visited between 9:00 and 16:00 on weekdays.
